1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injection

I'm not a mechanic at all, my 1986 ford bronco has FUEL INJECTION and I need to change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket . And I want to do this myself....Please help! I mean I don't even change the oil, I just put gas and go.1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injectionChanging the valve cover and thermostat housing gaskets is not affected by the engine being fuel injected, other than the location of certain things on the engine that may have to be removed to gain access to valve covers, but understand the gaskets are gaskets regardless of the type of fuel system on the vehicle.

Actually changing the gaskets is not tough at all, however removing various things from the engine to actually get to the valve covers is a rather ambitious project for a novice

My suggestion would be either buy or go down to the library and find a service manual for your Bronco and read through the sections on removing/reinstalling the valve covers and thermostat and that will give you a better understanding of what all is involved, and that should better help you decide if you can tackle this project.

I'm not saying that to discourage you - I'm all in favor of the do-it-yourselfer, but I don't want to falsely lead you to think this is a simple no brainer for a novice...1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injectionThe fuel injection system is comprised of many different piece or sub-systems. (fuel pump, injectors, sensors, etc.) It is not a single unit that you just remove. I'm just trying to help you understand the terminology and components.

I would imagine, as %26quot;hunting4jink%26quot; mentioned, the upper intake plenum is going to need to come off - most of them do.

There will be a lot of vacuum hoses and come electrical connections going to this upper plenum piece....

1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injectionThere is a gasket between the upper and lower intakes - should be able to get it at the local autoparts store for under $15 - it goes on dry....no silicone on this gasket. Once you get the plenum out of the way, I think you should have full access to both valve covers at that point.

Make sure you clean everything real well and be sure not to over-tighten then new gaskets.

1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injectionon the v-8 ford you have to remove the fuel injection plenum system in able to change one of the 2 valve cover gaskets. it is fairly simple. if you purchase a repair manual(about 20 bucks) I think you could probably do it.

I would also recommend a roll of masking tape and a black sharpie so you can label any hoses and wires just so you don't have to worry about hooking them up wrong.1986 Ford Bronco how do you change the valve cover gasket and the thermostat gasket when it has fuel injectionyou change it the same way you would on a carburetored engine but if you dont change oil then its not a job for you if you going to change the thermostat gasket might as well change the thermostat but you know what go ahead and tackle the job your self once you screw up you will be doing one of my fellow mechanics a favor thats why we get so much moeny cause we not only fix the problem we have to clean up the mess sometime too
